About
Senior engineering, honestly applied
BrightPocket Software is a small consulting practice built around one idea: most stalled software does not need replacing. It needs someone experienced to find out what is actually wrong.
Who you work with
Jason Brock
Founder & Principal
I have spent nearly 20 years building software — web and mobile applications, APIs, databases, testing, deployment, and the unglamorous work of keeping systems maintainable after the interesting part is done.
BrightPocket Software exists because a specific problem became common. Founders can now assemble a working application quickly with AI assistance and reach a near-launch state without anyone experienced ever reviewing it. The result usually is not broken — it is mostly right, with a few decisions underneath that nobody has examined and that no build step will catch.
That is a diagnosis problem before it is a coding problem. It is the work I am good at, and it is what this practice does.
I use AI heavily in delivery. It makes me considerably faster. It does not review its own work, it does not carry responsibility, and it is not the party you are hiring — I am.

How we operate
Commitments, not slogans
Each of these exists because the opposite is common in this industry.
No automatic rewrite recommendation
A rewrite gets recommended only when evidence supports it. Preserving working code is the default.
No free disguised code audit
A free conversation identifies the problem. Investigating the cause is paid work, and it is priced up front.
No silent scope expansion
Scope changes are raised and agreed, never absorbed quietly and billed later.
AI output is not proof
AI accelerates delivery. It does not replace verification, and it is never the accountable party.
No production changes without authorization
Access is not permission. Production work happens only when explicitly agreed.
Candid reporting
What could not be verified gets stated plainly, including when that is inconvenient.
Straight answers about your software
Including, when it applies, that it is in better shape than you feared and does not need us.
